Director, Babson Center for Global Commerce
David Shipps, C’88, is director of the Babson Center for Global Commerce.
Shipps is a seasoned global business executive with a career focused on business development at some of the country’s leading technology and digital media companies.
Before his appointment as Babson Center director, he was vice president for global partnerships at The Weather Company, a subsidiary of IBM that provides weather forecasts to businesses, industries, governments, and consumers. Shipps directed the expansion of the firm’s portfolio of global partners for its products and services. Prior to IBM’s acquisition of The Weather Company, Shipps was senior vice president of business development at The Weather Channel.
Before joining The Weather Channel in 2011, he was vice president of Cox Media Group, operating as general manager of the firm’s multi-million dollar investment in online commerce.
From 2004 to 2009, he was vice president for sales and marketing at Internet service provider EarthLink. He has also been a senior member of various successful Internet startup companies that were either acquired or went public.
Shipps graduated from Sewanee with a BA in English literature and was awarded an MBA by Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
He was elected as an alumni representative to the Board of Trustees of the University of the South in 2009.
