06.14.13

Thirty-eight of Sewanee’s 331-strong Class of 2013 graduated with business minors, according to final figures compiled by the Registrar’s Office. Since 2009, when the first business minors graduated, 103 students have earned business minors.

This year’s group of business minors was twice the size of 2012's, a sign of heightened interest in pre-business education as a component of Sewanee’s integrated liberal arts curriculum.

Economics majors continued to be the largest contingent this year, with 20 graduates, including one double major in Economics and French.

Other majors included International and Global Studies (5), English (4), Environmental Studies (2), and Computer Science (2). The balance of the group graduated with majors in Asian Studies, Psychology, Art, Political Science, and one with a double major in Music and Mathematics.

Five graduates earned business honors by successfully completing the requirements for Carey Fellowships.

The business minor is a major element of the University’s Wm. Polk Carey Pre-Business Program, which also comprises the Babson Center for Global Commerce, and the University’s Office of Career & Leadership Development.

The Babson Center offers a wide range of co-curricular programs, including three lecture series, business skills training, Beecken Scholarships for summer programs at some of the nation’s leading graduate schools of business, entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship opportunities, individual mentoring.
