Sewanee History Grad Named Entrepreneur in Residence

David Mason, a 1995 Sewanee history graduate who went head-to-head with Amazon.com as a 22-year-old entrepreneur and is now a senior executive with AOL, will be this academic year’s Humphreys Entrepreneur in Residence at the Babson Center for Global Commerce.

Mason will be at the University October 3-4. During his visit, he will meet informally with students, visit classes, and deliver a public lecture.

Shortly after graduating from Sewanee, Mason started his first company, BookServe,  an early competitor to Amazon. BookServe merged with other internet stores and eventually became part of Buy.com, a major internet retailer. In 2007, Mason and a partner launched a Nashville-based online video production and technology company, StudioNow, Inc., which was acquired by AOL in 2010 for $36 million..

Economics lectures focus on conservation, women who opt out of careers

Michael Price of Georgia State University will lecture March 26 on how the insights of behavioral economics can be used to motivate conservation and investment in "green" technologies. On April 4, Joni Hersch, Professor of Law and Economics at Vanderbilt University will speak on "Opting Out Among Women with Elite Education." 03.26.13

Career events focus on environment and entertainment

Sewanee students interested in careers that focus on the environment or the entertainment business had opportunities to meet professionals working in the industries at two events co-sponsored by the Babson Center for Global Commerce. 02.27.13

Walter Davis, C'87, now a senior Morgan Stanley executive, returned to Sewanee as Graham Executive in Residence. He offered students advice on how to prepare to face a tough job market. 02.25.13
